If you are an affiliate marketer, promoting products or services for commission, then you are probably familiar with Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising. Most affiliate marketers have dabbled in PPC, lost some money, and written it off as a complicated time consuming money loser.
While it is far easier to lose money with Pay-Per-Click than it is to make money, many top affiliates earn most, if not all of their profits through paid search. However, the days of simply writing an ad, choosing a few key words, and achieving a positive ROI are long gone. Pay-Per-Click has not only become much more complex, it has become intensely competitive.
This doesn’t mean that as an affiliate marketer you should avoid PPC. But if you want a reasonable chance of success, you must level the playing field somewhat. Fortunately, there are an increasing number of very sophisticated tools that allow affiliate marketers to compete effectively.
Programs like SpeedPPC, PPCRiches, Affiliate Radar, and KeywordSpy automate the process of researching, creating, and tracking successful ad campaigns. While these tools can be pricey, competing without them can be far more costly.
Like the field of search engine marketing in general, these tools have grown in scope and sophistication. Just as a good mechanic chooses his tools wisely, those wishing to use PPC for affiliate marketing must choose their tools carefully.
While there are free or low-cost versions of many of these applications, this is not necessarily an area where it pays to be frugal. Increasing your Click Through Rate (CTR), lowering your Cost Per Click (CPC), and tracking the performance of your keywords are essential to your profitability. A tool that can improve your Quality Score by even a little bit is literally worth its weight in gold.
At the very least, you will need a keyword research tool, campaign and keyword tracking, and ideally. an automated campaign generator. Most of the programs available for these purposes are already in their second generation and at least one, SpeedPPC, is readying a release of its third version. Armed with these tools, affiliate marketers can tap into the vast profit potential of Pay-Per-Click advertising.
Time spent researching these programs is time well spent. Read the reviews and spend some time on the relevant forums. The payoff can be enormous. With the right tools, profit potential in PPC is literally unlimited!
